"Why'd they give D-Wade a Temu statue?" - Former Warriors guard pokes fun at Dwyane Wade's statue on Draymond Green podcast
Draymond Green and former Golden State Warriors guard Baron Davis made jokes about Dwyane Wade's statue in Miami. The Miami Heat organization unveiled Wade's well-deserved statue on Sunday as a form of gratitude for his accomplishments with the team. However, not everyone is thrilled with the way the statue turned out to be.
Davis and Green hilariously shared their thoughts about how the statue looked. During one of the segments of Draymond's podcast, Green brought up the concern that's been circulating about Wade's statue. Davis then shared his thoughts and said:
"Why'd they give D-Wade a Temu statue?"
Green pointed out that during the process of molding Dwyane Wade's face, it looked like the Miami Heat legend. But for some weird reason, it ultimately turned out otherwise. Baron Davis then continued with Green's train of thought and said:
"I think they were like "Yo D-Wade. We need you to pose for this statue." You know how busy he is and the s**t was taking all day. [Wade] was like "Man I'm tired of this s**t. Aye cousin stand here for me.""
Dwyane Wade defends his statue's design
While Dwyane Wade getting a statue is worth celebrating, not everyone is thrilled with the design. The basketball world criticized the statue because it didn't look like the Miami Heat legend.
Despite the criticism, Wade appreciated the statue regardless of how it looked. According to Tim Reynolds of AP News, the "Flash" defended the statue by explaining why the design doesn't matter.
“If I wanted it to look like me, I’d just stand outside the arena and y’all can take photos,” Wade said Monday. “It don’t need to look like me. It’s the artistic version of a moment that happened that we’re trying to cement.”
While it's likely that Wade is genuine about his sentiments regarding how the statue turned out, not everyone is convinced. When the Heat organization unveiled his statue, "D-Wade" came up on stage to give a speech.
The speech started with him saying:
"Who is that guy?"
Wade's quote trended on social media, leading some fans to believe that Wade wasn't joking around with his statement.
Nevertheless, the Miami Heat legend was right when he said that the statue signifies an important moment in Wade's career. The statue represents Wade's "this is my house" moment when he sank a buzzer-beater in double overtime against the Chicago Bulls in 2009.
