"Wincing for him": Skip Bayless weighs in on Bronny James' shooting struggles in Summer League

"Wincing" was the word Skip Bayless used to describe his reaction to Bronny James' latest performance on Friday.

Bronny, the son of four-time NBA MVP LeBron James, joined his teammates in Las Vegas for the latest installment of the Summer League, but failed to get going against the Houston Rockets.

The Los Angeles Lakers guard struggled from the field, especially from the three-point line. Overall, Bronny finished the night with eight points, 3/14 from the field and missed all eight of his attempts from behind the arc.

In Bayless' recent post on X, formerly known as "Twitter," he stated that Bronny is in a shooting slump and needs to record a three-pointer to get his confidence back.

"Wincing for him. He's a much better shooter than this. Just needs to see one 3 go down," said Bayless

Over three starts this summer, Bronny is averaging 5 points, 4 rebounds and 1.66 assists per game. He is shooting just 23 percent from the field over that stretch.

To make matters worse, the Lakers lost their fourth straight game, 99-80, to the Rockets. Los Angeles has failed to record a win in the Summer League with losses to the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and the Rockets.

Bronny James showed glimpses of what made him a top high school prospect, but failed to make a major impact on the game on Friday. Shooting 0-8 from the three-point line (and 0-12 in his last three games) will be a concern for the Lakers coaching staff as they attempt to find a role for him in the regular season roster.

Prior to the season, Bronny compared his style of play that to Jrue Holiday and Derrick White. Both players are known for their lockdown pressure defense and their ability to shoot a high percentage from the three-point line. Holiday shot 43 percent from behind the arc during the 2023-24 regular season. White was not far behind, shooting nearly 40 percent from three.

Bronny James has had a rough start to his professional career. The goal of the Summer League, however, is to develop his game. If the 19-year-old hopes to make his mark in the NBA, he will need to work on his shooting so that he can contribute to an already talented Lakers lineup.
