WNBA star Lexie Brown brands ex-NBA player a 'traitor' for backing France over USA in Olympics finalĀ
Incredible excitement is building for tomorrow's gold medal game between Team USA and France. Some basketball fans expect Team USA to handle their business easily. However, former Timberwolves guard Rashad McCants argued that the home team has a chance. When he shared his opinion on Gil's Arena, WNBA star Lexie Brown was baffled.
The Steve Kerr-led squad enters Saturday's game after a close semi-final finish against Serbia. Their 95-91 victory came after a 17-point comeback and saw the superstar trio of Stephen Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant carry the team.
France, on the other hand, handled their business against Germany to secure a 73-69 win, courtesy of contributions from Guerschon Yabusele, Isaia Cordinier and Victor Wembanyama. With the team ready to put on a show in front of their home crowd, McCants is not ready to rule out their upset chances.
"Why?" Brown asked. "You're not from France?"
The Sparks guard was confused by McCants's stance on the gold medal matchup between Team USA and France, considering that he was born in Asheville, North Carolina.
He reiterated that he wouldn't mind if the American athletes secured more international gold but argued that France still has a chance of defying the odds.
Former three-time NBA All-Star accused Team USA doubters of being LeBron James haters
There is immense pressure for this year's USA Basketball roster to bring home the gold medal. Aside from their close game against Serbia, they have dominated the recent Olympic competition.
However, the team still receives doubt from former NBA players and basketball fans on social media. Following Rashad McCants' comments to Gilbert Arenas, Arenas argued that he was coming off as a hater of LeBron James.
"The reason that these guys are rooting for South Sudan, Serbia, everybody against Team USA is so LeBron James, if he fails, they get to throw this, 'This is why you're not the GOAT,'" Arenas said, "'even though their GOAT wasn't s*** at this age.' ... So they're going to judge him off something that their star wasn't even a part of."
With greatness comes comparisons to those who came before, such as Bulls legend Michael Jordan. LBJ and MJ are often included in the never-ending debate over the "Greatest of All Time" mantle.
Vociferous opposition exists toward every accolade the Lakers star has accomplished or is on the brink of accomplishing. Even so, the Team USA superstar finds himself just one game shy of his third Olympic gold medal.
