"Woj said a buncha nothing" - Kevin Durant's podcast host calls out Adrian Wojnarowski for using Suns' star's name in baseless trade talks

Kevin Durant is back in NBA trade rumors, not two years into his stay with the Phoenix Suns. In 2023, the “Slim Reaper” forced his way out of Brooklyn after a somewhat tumultuous stint with the Nets. The Suns sent Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, four first-round picks and a 2028 first-round pick swap to Brooklyn for the former MVP.

A day before the 2024 draft, Adrian Wojnarowski posted on X, formerly Twitter, a Durant report. He said that the Houston Rockets are planning to get the two-time NBA Finals MVP. The ESPN analyst added that Phoenix will not let Durant go this season, but the stance could change after the 2024-25 season.

Eddie Gonzalez, Kevin Durant’s co-host of “The ETCs” podcast, reacted to Wojnarowski’s statement:

“Woj said a buncha nothing but knew throwing KD in there would spark some convo lmaooooo”

Gonzalez and the Phoenix Suns superstar forward are quite close so the producer must know something Wojnarowski isn’t aware of. Still, the Houston Rockets might try to trade for Durant. If the Phoenix Suns, which were swept in the first round of the playoffs this year, have another disappointing season, KD could be traded.

The Suns battled injuries last season and underwhelmed in the playoffs. They have hired a new coach and are in the process of retooling the supporting cast around Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Perhaps Mike Budenholzer can get more out of the team’s two stars and Bradley Beal.

Kevin Durant will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 season

Next season, Kevin Durant is in the Phoenix Suns’ books for $51.1 million. After that, he is set to earn $54.7 million before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. How the Suns will fare next season could determine Durant’s stay in Phoenix.

If the Suns have an underwhelming 2024-25 campaign, the team could reset by trading the aging KD for draft capital. The Houston Rockets’ three first-round picks might grease the conversation of a potential exchange.

The Phoenix Suns will likely rebuild the roster around Devin Booker who is under contract until the 2027-28 season. Bradley Beal has a $57.1 million player option heading into the 2026-27 season. They could be the franchise cornerstones if they decide to trade the "Slim Reaper."

For now, Phoenix will take another swing at the championship behind the core of Durant, Beal and Booker. A new coach might be just what they need to grab the coveted Larry O’Brien Trophy. If they spectacularly fail again, perhaps a rebuild will be inevitable with KD as the biggest trade chip.
