The Bryant family tragically lost Kobe and Gianna, also known as Gigi, in a helicopter crash in January 2020. Kobe was 41, and Gigi was 13. They were en route to a kids' basketball game at Kobe's Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, California.
Despite this loss, the family continues to honor Kobe and Gigi through various tributes and celebrations.
Natalia also shared a photo on her Instagram story, showing her as an infant with Kobe wearing LA Dodgers apparel, captioned:
"Happy Father’s Day Daddy 🤍".
Vanessa Bryant calls Kobe Bryant the MVP of girl dads
Kobe Bryant earned one MVP award in 2008 and Finals MVP awards in 2009 and 2010, but to Vanessa Bryant, he was the MVP of girl dads.
The basketball legend frequently expressed his love for being a father to daughters, coaching Gianna and imparting valuable lessons to his children.
During her eulogy at Kobe's public memorial in 2020, Vanessa shared how Kobe was as a father.
"Kobe was the MVP of girl dads—or MVD. He always told the girls how beautiful and smart they are. He taught them how to be brave and how to keep pushing forward when things get tough," she said.
Kobe, a proud father, often expressed his love for his daughters. While many hoped he would have a son, he said his daughters were more than enough.
"I would have five more girls if I could. I'm a girl dad,” Kobe told ESPN in 2018.
In an interview with the LA Times, Kobe said his favorite moments were spent with his family.
"I want to make sure the days that I'm away from them are days that I absolutely have to be," he said. "I'd rather be with them than doing anything else."
