“Would’ve waived my no-trade clause” - LeBron James doesn't mince words about possible reservations of Luka Doncic trade

LeBron James didn't hold back after ending speculation about his potential reservations about the Lakers securing their future with Luka Doncic's trade. Many believed that Doncic's addition would end LeBron's tenure in LA, as the team would cater more to their new superstar's needs than his.

However, LeBron answered questions regarding the situation on Tuesday for the first time after leading the Lakers to a 122-97 win over the LA Clippers. He said:

"What’s wrong with that? If I had any concerns, I would have waived my no-trade clause and got up out of here."

Despite being under contract, LeBron James controls his future with the Lakers. Alongside Bradley Beal, he's one of two players with a no-trade clause. Any possible deal involving the four-time MVP will have to be approved by him as he holds the power to veto a trade he doesn't want.

However, LeBron said he is committed to the Lakers and mentoring Luka Doncic as he adjusts to life in LA after a sudden and unexpected change. It's the role the Lakers want LeBron to take on over this final phase of his stint with the team and pave the pathway for Doncic to take over as not only the Lakers but the NBA's face.

Unaware LeBron James emotional about losing his 'brother' Anthony Davis in Luka Doncic trade

LeBron James and most players in the Lakers locker room are still processing the blockbuster trade that shipped franchise cornerstone Anthony Davis to the Mavericks for Luka Doncic. Davis was James' longest-tenured co-star, with the duo linking up five and a half years ago in 2019.

They won a title in their first season together and established themselves as arguably the most dominant one-two punch in the NBA during their tenure as teammates. LeBron gave a deep rundown on his dynamic with Davis, showing reporters his emotional side, saying:

"Great. It's great. It's everything and more. We literally became brothers over the last five and a half years. What we was able to accomplish on the floor, obviously, that goes without saying. But at one point what we as able to accomplish off the floor just us growing together, knowing each other's families. ... It was unique. I was obviously at his wedding."

LeBron James, who is usually kept in the loop regarding most dealings, also didn't see this trade coming. Like most who kept tabs on the situation, LeBron also thought the report was a 'hoax' until Anthony Davis Facetimed him, and the two had a long conversation after the Lakers game in New York on Saturday.

LeBron and the Lakers will get to meet their former star soon when they host the Mavericks on Feb. 25. LeBron and AD will share the locker room again during the All-Star break before that matchup.
