"Y’all get mad" - Chet Holmgren sets record straight on controversial Heat take following fan criticism
OKC Thunder center Chet Holmgren settles things after his quote about playing in Miami during road games. Holmgren was quoted saying that the city's arena was "always empty," which didn't go well with the fans on social media. After it went viral, the Rookie of the Year runner-up defended his take on X (formerly Twitter).
Holmgren enjoys playing in Miami since the fans aren't usually present for the entire game. The Thunder center mentioned this while he was a guest on the show "Road Trippin'," a podcast hosted by former NBA players Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson.
"I like Miami, because it’s just like empty... As the away team you just got to build that lead in the first three quarters and then it just stays quiet for the fourth," Holmgren said about Miami.
But the fans didn't like what he had to say about Miami's crowd and went after him on social media. Holmgren didn't want any more misunderstandings with the team's supporters and decided to address it on social media.
"Y’all get mad when nba players never have anything to say to media, but then chop our quotes up to get reactions. I was saying the seats r empty until the 4th quarter when fans come back from the lounges after a few drinks and the atmosphere is great for close games. Its actually a compliment," the young center defended himself.
The fans reacted prematurely to what Holmgren had to say about the crowd. He isn't the only player who has shared the same sentiment regarding the fans' presence. Miami Heat's own Jimmy Butler talked about it with artist Camila Cabello when they played H.O.R.S.E. recently.
"The worst part, to me, our fans never show up on time," Butler said. "They never show up on time. I was like, `Damn, I want it to be rocking from like from the jump ball. Fans, come one, we need y'all."'

Chet Holmgren has high praise for Thunder GM Sam Presti
The Thunder returned to postseason competition last season, which was a reflection of their hard work in drafting players in the past years. One person who should get all the credit is general manager Sam Presti. His immense intelligence and eye for the future of the franchise have worked out well to their advantage.
Chet Holmgren, the player he drafted in 2022 with the second pick, had high praise for what he's been able to do.
"I don't even think or worry about what he's doing. I'm like, 'He's gonna get this s**t right, let me get my s**t right.'"
The Thunder made great moves over the years, collecting draft capital and young talent. This offseason, he wasn't done as he managed to acquire experienced veterans to lead and mentor OKC's youth.
