"You ain't seen a fat point guard?" - Ex-Warriors guard pitches his Dubs comeback to Draymond Green

Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors struggled to find any consistency last season, barely scrapping their way into the NBA play-in tournament. The lineup is in desperate need of reinforcements and one former Warriors player believes he is the right man for the job.

Speaking on The Draymond Green Show, two-time NBA All-Star Baron Davis threw his hat in the ring for a roster spot with the organization. The former NBA point guard claims he is capable of making the Warriors roster.

"I'd make the team. I can make the Warriors," said Davis. "You ain't seen a fat point guard?"

Baron Davis went on to call himself a "baby Luka," comparing his style of play to that of five-time All-NBA First Team superstar Luka Doncic.

Draymond Green humored his guest, but was not ready to concede that he was in any condition to return to the pros.

"You gotta get in some shape," replied Draymond

Golden State already have the best point guard in the league with Steph Curry set to return for his 16th season with the organization. With several other younger guards on the depth chart (Gary Payton II, Brandin Podziemski, De'Anthony Melton come to mind), it may be difficult for the 45-year-old Davis to break into the lineup.

Baron Davis was a member of Warriors between 2005-2008. Under the leadership of legendary coach Don Nelson, the 2006/07 team played one of the most exciting and dynamic brands of basketball in the league with Davis featuring in the backcourt. That team went all the way to the Western Conference semifinals, eventually losing out to Utah Jazz.

The Golden State Warriors will start the 2024/25 season with a new look after five-time All-Star Klay Thompson opted for a move to the Dallas Mavericks this offseason. Thompson, along with Draymond Green and Steph Curry, was part of a golden era in Warriors basketball history where the franchise won four NBA championships over eight seasons.

Green wished his former teammate well after learning of his decision to take on a new project.

"The reason I'm happy he's gone is because he wasn't happy no more. As a brother, I only want what’s best for you, not what’s best for me, not what's best for this team," said Green during the Club 520 podcast.

Losing Klay Thompson to a Western Conference rival is a major blow for the organization but the Warriors still have plenty of talent on the roster.

Veterans Curry and Green will be called on to play a bigger role next season. Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins have developed into key pieces over the last few seasons. Rising star Brandin Podziemski has evolved into one of the league's top shooting guard.

Despite the departure of Thompson, there are still plenty of reasons for Warriors fans to be optimistic about the upcoming season.
