"You got to consider him 100%" - Draymond Green vouches for Lakers hiring Monty Williams citing Anthony Davis' relationship

Golden State Warriors forward and four-time NBA champion Draymond Green did not shy away from sharing his opinion on the Los Angeles Lakers coaching search. A disappointing season and first round playoff exit led to Darvin Ham losing his job as the Lakers head coach.

On his latest podcast episode, Green made a strong case for former Detroit Pistons head coach Monty Williams to take the helm in Los Angeles.

He said:

“I know Anthony Davis loved Monty Williams when he played for him at New Orleans. So you ask yourself, should the Lakers consider Monty Williams? And I say, of course, you got to consider him 100%, especially with that tie.”

Green's rationale came down to Williams' history of playing well with Anthony Davis. Williams was the coach of Davis for three seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans (then Hornets), where he took a raw talent and helped mold it into one of the current dominant forces in the NBA.

Shams Charania Dismisses Rumors of Lakers Hiring JJ Redick as Head Coach

After Dan Hurley decided to stay at UConn, JJ Redick is back in the Lakers' head coaching conversation. Other reports were more sure than certain that Redick was a lock; but again, it was never reported as fact.

On Wednesday, NBA insider Shams Charania offered a corrected version of events on the Pat McAfee Show. He stated that while Redick interviewed with the Lakers, there was no deal in place.

"There's not an agreement as far as I know for JJ Redick as of right now," Charania said. "We're speaking right now almost 1:45 p.m. Eastern Time. JJ Redick went into LA on Saturday and had in-person meetings, multiple hours with the Lakers brass. With Rob Pelinka the general manager, vice president of basketball operations, ownership as well. I'm told his meetings on Saturday were very impressive."

All signs point to JJ Redick as the frontrunner to become the new head coach for the LA-based franchise. If this happens, it will be his first time coaching a team after playing professionally for 15 seasons.
