"You do what Michael Jordan's son did" - NBA fans react to Bronny James opening up on challenges of being LeBron James' son
It is not easy being Bronny James as he has large footsteps to follow as the son of one of the greatest players of all time, LeBron James. Bronny is used to the criticism though even if it is not the easiest path.
Bronny answered questions about being the son of the basketball icon as he prepares to enter the NBA Draft.
“It’s tough. A lot of criticism gets thrown my way. I got to deal with it. They don’t know what I’ve been through. I just try to make the best of the opportunities that are given to me,” Bronny James said.
James said he played many sports growing up including soccer. His mother never let him try American football but he quickly found basketball was his 'cup of tea.'
Bronny also had the choice to return to college basketball but seems determined to stay with the NBA draft process. Despite the outside noise, Bronny said he was enjoying his next step towards professional basketball.
“I always want to end up where I am happy the most. My mom has always told me to take me where my heart wants me to be. I just found happiness in what I am doing right now,” Bronny James said.
Bronny’s vulnerability about his basketball journey drew plenty of online reactions. Many compared him to Michael Jordan’s sons. This fan encouraged Bronny to give up on the NBA dreams like Jordan’s son Marcus did.
“You do what Michael Jordan son did. He gets no criticism other than his fling with Scotty Pimpin’s mother,” a fan wrote.
Some came to the defense of Bronny, calling out the critics of the young player.
“He’s right. So many people praying for his downfall its sad,” a fan wrote.
“Gotta feel for him. Can't imagine trying to make a name for myself with my dad being LEBRON JAMES,” a fan wrote.
Many tweeted out their respect for how Bronny has handled the media circus around him.
“Love the honesty here, seems like he has a good head on his shoulders,” a fan wrote.
Not everyone was so kind. Some of the social media trolls came out to rip the young player like this fan.
“Must be so tough being the son of a billionaire,” a fan wrote.
Teams considering drafting Bronny James
While most are vocal about Bronny James’ draft stock, reports have emerged that multiple teams are still considering drafting Bronny in the first round.
LA Times basketball writer Dan Woike reported that multiple executives have Bronny as a potential first-round selection. Teams are rumored to be drafting Bronny in an attempt to lure LeBron James to their team as a potential free agent.
“Forget second-round evaluations, multiple NBA executives told The Times their teams have discussed drafting Bronny James in the first round in an effort to lure his father to their team in free agency,” wrote Dan Woike.
Bronny impressed as a shooter and defender with a solid wingspan. Many criticized his 6-foot-1 height measurements and continue to question whether he can find a place at the NBA level.
