"You're a 6 god": Rapper Mase takes a page from Drake’s book in giving Bronny James' game-changing advice
Since being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers this summer, Bronny James has struggled to find his rhythm. While coach JJ Redick and general manager Rob Pelinka have made it clear that they aren't expecting Bronny James to immediately be a rotational player, some members of the NBA community believe that he simply isn't an NBA-level player.
With less than a week to go until the start of the regular season, rapper Mase believes he has the solution to Bronny's struggles, which started during the summer league.
"I just would say this to Bronny," Mase said on It is What it is. "You gotta really look at it like this: It's kill or be killed. Every night is kill or be killed. And if you take that mindset, remember, get the corn rows. Listen to Uncle Murda, get the corn rows, wear the sleeve, wear number six. Change your number right now to number six and wear the red Lebrons.
"Like when you're from the suburbs, but you look like you a little gangster. Then you start tricking yourself into thinking you gangster. Then before you know it, you a full-blown gangster. You're a 6 God."
"'Six God' is one of Drake's hit songs. Mase also mentioned that Drake's overlooked part is his slick talk, which often gets ignored. He suggested that Bronny should adopt one of the tricks to enhance his performance.
Even though people say like he’s from a type of culture and background, the way he started approaching it made people look at him in a different light. Drake is probably a guy that you most likely listen to in music form; you could take that from his craft.” he added. (After: 54:32)
Throughout the Lakers' summer league games at the California Classic and the NBA 2k25 Summer League in Las Vegas, Bronny's struggles have compounded entering preseason, with him shooting just 12.5% from the floor and 0-7 from beyond the arc.
Heading into the 2024-25 regular season, the expectation is that Bronny James will receive infrequent, inconsistent minutes while primarily developing behind the scenes and making appearances in the G League.
"I'm getting back to where I was": Bronny James opens up on recovery from cardiac arrest ahead of 2024-25 NBA season
Although Bronny James is preparing to make his regular-season NBA debut, it wasn't that long ago that the rookie was undergoing heart surgery to correct a heart defect that caused his cardiac arrest last summer.
Following what he calls "the heart incident," Bronny went right back to work, jumping into his freshman season with USC. While his numbers from his lone season competing in the NCAA don't jump off the charts, his impressive showcase at the NBA Draft Combine did wonders for his draft stock.
Since then, his play in the summer league and throughout the preseason has been placed under a microscope. As he explained in an interview with Men's Health, he's still working to get back to where he was before "the heart incident."
“I got real on top of my routines to get back to where I was. I had to do breathing exercises and stuff," Bronny said. "It was a total reset. ... My days aren’t normal anymore. I still feel like I’m getting back, I’m getting back to where I was.”
Over the next year, Bronny will have the chance to develop as a player and settle into the routine of a grueling 82-game season while getting back to where he was before undergoing heart surgery.
