“You’re not gonna let nobody beat you up with a gun on you” - Mendeecees Harris advises Ja Morant on gun incident
Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies have been finding success since the young superstar rejoined the team. As part of his rejoining the team, the Grizzlies have continued to assist Morant, with the team notably no longer spending nights on the road.
As the Grizzlies look ahead to the playoffs in the midst of an 12-3 run leading up to their remaining three games of the season, many hope Morant can stay on track. With the young superstar seemingly walking a fine line, Mendeecees Harris wants to impart some advice.
On a recent episode of "Club Shay Shay," the entertainment TV personality discussed Ja Morant's off-court controversies that led to his suspension. As someone who was heavily involved in street life and even served time for his illegal activities, Harris offers a unique perspective.
"I would tell him – most people who are in the position he is right now – he got a chance to set his family up for generations to come. Not just him, not just the next generation, his kids' kids' kids. I would tell him just being a tough don't pay.
"And having a gun sometimes, don't carry a gun because somebody might force you to shoot it. Because you're not gonna let anybody beat you up with a gun on you. You're not going to be knocked out on the floor, and you've got this on you."

Ja Morant's past controversies this season and how the Grizzlies are keeping him on track
Ja Morant has been in the headlines this season for a number of controversies, some of which took place before the season even started. Before his suspension, reports indicated that Morant was involved in two separate incidents in the summer just days apart.
In one instance, Morant allegedly punched a teenager during a pickup game before then going inside and retrieving a gun that was seen in his waistband. The other incident saw Morant and a large group get into a verbal spat with a mall security officer that resulted in the police being called.
Then, in the midst of the regular season, Ja Morant was involved in a pair of controversies. The first was a verbal spat with the Indiana Pacers which turned into a shouting match outside of the arena after the game. Allegedly, a car carrying Morant trained a red laser at members of the Pacers traveling party.
Shortly after, Morant showed himself on social media brandishing a gun, sparking a massive investigation. After serving a suspension handed down by the NBA, the Grizzlies want to make sure Morant stays on the straight and narrow.
Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins talked about Ja Morant rejoining the team:
"I think it's going to be great to get him reintegrated with the group. The group's been supportive of him. He's been supportive of the group. It'll be good to put our arms around him and just move forward and help us all grow."
With the Grizzlies riding plenty of momentum into the final games of the season, only time will tell whether the team is able to make a big postseason run.
