"You tryna be the next Muggsy Bogues?" - NBA fans roasts Kai Cenat for abandoning live streaming to chase basketball dreams

Kai Cenat is one of the best at engaging fans on different social media platforms. The 2023 and 2024 “Streamer of the Year” has millions of followers on YouTube, Twitch, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). After struggling with his streaming career, he now sometimes has celebrities in his live engagements with fans.

Cenat, though, surprised the social media world with a post on Sunday. The rapper declared on X:

“I'm quitting streaming and becoming a professional basketball player. Goodbye.”

Fans didn’t hold back in their reactions:

“You tryna be the next Muggsy Bogues?”

One fan piled it on:

“First Player to average 3 posts per game”

Another fan made a comment on his height:

"But you short bro how will you reach the net?"

One LA Lakers fan trolled the YouTuber:

“We already have Taurean Prince”

Another fan said:

“Height requirement is below lil ni**a”

Kai Cenat is roughly 5-foot-4 based on reports, making it doable for him to play in the NBA if he has the skills. The legendary Muggsy Bogues played 14 seasons in the biggest basketball league despite standing only 5-foot-3. Earl Boykins’ 5-foot-5 frame did not stop him from playing in the NBA for 12 years.

Cenat, though, doesn’t have the skills to become a pro basketball player. During the 2024 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game, the streamer had an incredibly underwhelming performance. Cenat apologized on Instagram for not living up to the hype he created and fan expectations.

“Sorry If I Let You Down…”

Kai Cenat once boasted to post a triple-double if Ice Spice watched the 2024 NBA Celebrity All-Star Game

Kai Cenat’s streams are sought after because of the content and impressive comedic flair. He engaged the fans leading into the Celebrity All-Star game by showing clips of his training and workout.

On game day, he boldly asked Shannon Sharpe, the team coach, to give him the minutes as he was aiming for the MVP award. When interviewed about how he would perform in the game, Cenat responded:

“Tonight, we dropping 30 [points] and if Ice Spice on the sideline, we dropping 45 [points], 10 assists and 17 rebounds.”

Sharpe played him five minutes and Kai Cenat ended with four points and one assist. His teammates sometimes refused to pass him the ball, forcing him to throw a tantrum on the court. Based on that display, he would even find it hard going up against high school standouts.

Cenat is one of the most in-demand streamers today. It’s highly improbable to leave that career for one that he knows he will have almost no shot at succeeding.
