"You’ve been hurt for 2 years n***a": Anthony Edwards' trash talk on Lakers forward goes viral
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards returned to the court ready to inflict fear in his opponents. The season opener saw him go up against the LA Lakers of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and JJ Redick.
Despite losing the game 110-103, the young guard made some noise during the match, going up against Bronny James when the rookie was on the court and trash-talking one of the Lakers' best defenders, Jarred Vanderbilt.
A viral video shared by @TheDunkCentral on X (formerly Twitter) shows the All-Star going after Vanderbilt, reminding him that he's been hurt for two years.
Anthony Edwards is known for being a fierce trash-talker on the court. He was feeling himself last season against the Phoenix Suns, mimicking the famous D-X (D-Generation X) gesture with his hands after his team took care of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Co. in the first round of the playoffs.
However, Edwards wasn't able to lead the Timberwolves to the Finals after Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks stopped them in the Western Conference finals.
Edwards has unfinished business this season, and the Timberwolves have renewed hopes after landing Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle in a blockbuster trade with the New York Knicks.
Edwards picked up right where he left off last season, playing a game-high 41 minutes, scoring 27 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing three assists. Newcomers Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo scored 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Anthony Edwards makes confident statement about potential matchup with Michael Jordan
Anthony Edwards has always boasted a fierce competitiveness. The former No. 1 overall pick shared it once again ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season, stating that if he and Michael Jordan clashed in the 90s, he would have given the six-time NBA champion a run for his money.
"They gon' hate me again when I say this — I already know it. I would've been the guy that could match up with MJ. That would have been me.," Edwards said. "I would've been that guy that would've been guarding him, scoring back on him. I would've been that guy."
Since he was drafted, Edwards has been compared to His Airness due to some of his moves and style of play. He's just heating up in a career that could be really good. If he keeps improving, the Timberwolves will have a good chance to challenge for championships for many years.
