"Your best days are still to come": Derrick Rose's wife Alaina pens emotional and supportive note after iconic guard announces retirement
Derrick Rose was envisioned to be a crucial piece of the Chicago Bulls that would lead them back to their former glory days. However, he ran into an injury history that continued to hamper his progress on the court. Following the Memphis Grizzlies' decision to waive the three-time All-Star, he later announced his retirement, with his wife sharing an emotional post on Instagram.
After playing 27 games for the New York Knicks in the 2022-23 season, he was later acquired by the Grizzlies in the 2023 offseason. He logged over 24 games and averaged 8.0 points (46.1% shooting, including 36.6% from 3-point range) and 3.3 assists.
Rose's wife Alaina Anderson shared a snap alongside her husband and their children with a heartwarming caption.
"Everything you do, you do with your family in mind," she posted. "And we love and appreciate you more than words can say. ... You've inspired us all, and we're incredibly lucky to have witnessed every part of your journey ... Letting go is never easy, but your best days are still to come, and I can't wait to be there with you every step of the way."
Derrick Rose played across various teams throughout his 17 seasons in the NBA. He established his place in the league as a prominent All-Star with the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies.
Derrick Rose shared his retirement post on social media
The former No. 1 overall pick shared his retirement post on Instagram where he appeared in a sleek suit and reading a newspaper from his desk. The newspaper included his retirement message.
"You believe in me through the highs and the lows, my constant when everything else seemed uncertain," Derrick Rose posted. "You turned the court into my sanctuary, a home where I could express myself freely. ... You told me it's okay to say goodbye, reassuring me that you'll always be a part of me, no matter where life takes me."
Rose has one of the most intriguing NBA careers, as his peak saw a player in an unmatched athletic form that only a few players could hope to reach in their lifetime. His athletic peak rivaled the capabilities of prime Russell Westbrook, Grizzlies star Ja Morant and even prime John Wall.
Back in his days playing for the Chicago Bulls, he was one of the most exciting players to watch due to his jaw-dropping highlights and superstar attitude on the court.
Derrick Rose finished his career being the youngest MVP in NBA history and earned two FIBA World Cup gold medals and an All-NBA First Team selection.
