Zach Edey's return to starting lineup fuels the Grizzlies' big win
The Memphis Grizzlies set a franchise record with 27 3-pointers made in Thursday's rout. The margin is also Memphis' largest this season. With contributions across the board, Zach Edey's presence down low was huge. Edey finished with four offensive boards as well.
Zach Edey against Draymond Green
In Memphis' previous game with Golden State on Nov. 15, Green committed what several fans deemed "dirty play." During that game, no foul was called. Here is the play:
In the video, it can be seen that after Green hit the deck, his arm got tangled up with Edey's leg, causing the rookie to fall. Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins shared his thoughts about the officiating:
"And very disappointing, there was that one play, we were about to start the break and he's been playing really hard to try to outlet, and Draymond grabs his leg and pulls him down and it doesn't get reviewed. So I know there's a code in this league, and I don't understand how that wasn't reviewed. Very disappointing," Jenkins said after the Nov. 15 game.
A day later, the league, via the NBA Official X account, upgraded the play to Flagrant 1.
Before the matchup with the Warriors on Thursday, Edey said:
“That’s the kind of the game that he likes to play... I’m not worried about it. I’m just going to go play basketball like I know I can and have.“
In two straight games, Zach Edey's minutes are likely being restricted as the center both logged identical minutes since missing 12 consecutive games. For its next game, Memphis will visit the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday.
