"Zero shot" - Davante Adams responds to ex-Clippers guard's take on NBA players transitioning to the NFL
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has a differing take on former LA Clippers guard Austin Rivers' take that NBA players can easily transition to playing in the NFL.
The 31-year-old former Fresno State standout gave his reaction to the bold claim on Shannon Sharpe's "Club Shay Shay' podcast, which was uploaded on July 20. He highlighted, that basketball and football are different at so many levels.
Davante Adams said:
"I'll say this, I understand what he's (Rivers) saying. These NBA dudes are extremely athletic. They'd be 6-8 and being able to move similar to what a football player is doing out there. But we're not talking about going and doing a combine, we talk about the physicality in an NFL game...
"These dudes (NBA players) ain't getting out of one football game, let alone talking about being able to play in the NFL is a zero shot..."
Check out what he had to say below:
Austin Rivers, who played for the Clippers for three and a half seasons, found himself taken to task by a lot of football players and observers for saying on the "Pat McAfee Show" back in May that he could name at least 30 players who could seamlessly transition into the NFL but not the other way around.
The former Duke star said:
"I can take 30 players right now in the NBA and throw them in the NFL. You cannot take 30 NFL players and put them in the NBA."
His comments further added fire to an already-going debate over which league has the best athletes in American sports.
Davante Adams loves and supports the NBA
Davante Adams may not be convinced that NBA players can play in the NFL alongside them, but he supports the professional basketball league and looks up to the likes of Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
He made this known in the same interview with Shannon Sharpe on the "Club Shay Shay" podcast, saying:
"See that? This man right here (pointing to the Jordan 4 shoe he was wearing). You got your LeBrons and I love Bron. Bron is a different type of dude and I love Kobe. I got Mamba Mentality on the inside of all my cleats. It's a piece of all of these guys that I love. But when you talk about just -- He's (Bryant) Randy Moss for me."
Davante Adams' interest in the NBA and basketball in general is not at all surprising as apart from football, he also played hoops while attending Palo Alto High School. He also considers himself "a hooper at heart."
