“Not the worst idea I’ve ever had” - Richard Jefferson hilariously announces exclusive with 5x NBA champion
Former 17-year NBA veteran Richard Jefferson shared a humorous skit with his ex-San Antonio Spurs teammate, five-time NBA champion Tim Duncan on X/Twitter on Thursday. In his tweet, Jefferson hinted at doing an exclusive with the reserved Hall of Famer.
In the skit, Jefferson calls up Duncan, whom he played with for two seasons from 2009 to 2011. He requests an interview with him and one of his Larry O'Brien Championship Trophies.
"Now, Tim, I know you don't do interviews, and you don't even really like me, but I'm just asking for one interview. And bring your trophy," Jefferson said.
Upon meeting up with the Spurs legend, Jefferson borrows his championship trophy, promising to "have it right back in 24 hours." Duncan asks him if he will regret the decision, to which Jefferson reassures him that everything will be fine.
Afterward, Jefferson takes the trophy everywhere he goes for several days, with Duncan repeatedly calling and asking for it back. That includes the now-ESPN television personality watching basketball, conducting podcasts and eating with the trophy. He even takes it for a walk in a baby stroller.
The skit concludes with Duncan threatening to "find a way to come and find" Jefferson to retrieve his trophy. Jefferson then turns to the golden sculpture, which he is podcasting with, quipping about his decision.
"I think this is gonna be fun," Jefferson said. "I think this is not the worst idea I've ever had."
In his tweet, Richard Jefferson noted that he is "introducing [his] new show next Tuesday" and that fans "won't want to miss" it. It's unclear exactly what Jefferson is planning. Nonetheless, he convinced Duncan, who has lived a relatively private life since his 2016 retirement, to re-enter the spotlight.
NBA fans react to rare Tim Duncan sighting in Richard Jefferson's skit
While some NBA fans appeared caught off guard by Richard Jefferson's skit with Tim Duncan, most were excited about the 15-time All-Star's rare sighting.
In Jefferson's X comment section, fans remarked about his ability to coax Duncan into media appearances. Some called for them to start a podcast together.
"RJ [is] the only dude in the podcasting game to have Tim Duncan make an appearance on more than one occasion. Incredible," @spirs210 said.
"Need a Tim Duncan podcast," @justnuggetspod said.
"Whoa a Tim Duncan sighting, this should be good," @_MontanaMax said.
"OH MY GOD! TIMMMMMMYYYYY!!!" @VeeeKaaay said.
Outside of a brief Spurs assistant coaching stint (2019-2020), Duncan's public sightings have been few and far between. He has most frequently been spotted enjoying nature, including wakeboarding last year. So, it appears that fans are looking forward to whatever Duncan content Jefferson has to offer.
