Dirk Nowitzki overtakes Moses Malone in the NBA scoring leaders

Dallas Mavericks’ stalwart Dirk Nowitzki notched another milestone in his colourful career as he surpassed the great Moses Malone (27,409 points) to take the seventh place in the NBA all-time scoring list. Nowitzki hits a right wing three point shot in the overtime period of their 96-88 win over the Brooklyn Nets that moved him into seventh place of the scoring list.

The 16-year veteran from Wurzburg, Germany came into the season at the 10th spot of the scoring ranking. Dirk (27,412 points) bumped Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon (26,946 points) out of the ninth spot against the Sacramento Kings last November 12 and became the highest international-born player in the NBA. Then Nowitzki passed Elvin Hayes (27,313 points) against the Los Angeles Lakers last December 27 to claim the 8th spot.

“insane, crazy ride.” said Nowitzki as he’s passing some NBA’s greats in the scoring list.

The 2011 Finals MVP is averaging 22.4 points per game in his career. His highest scoring average for a season was 26.6 ppg in 2005-2006 where he led the Dallas Mavericks with a 60-22 record that led them to their first finals appearance in franchise history.

Standing next to Nowitzki on the scoring list is Shaquille O’neal, who has 28,596 points for his career.
