Rajon Rondo - Celtics' Shining Star
Rajon Rondo rose to the occasion as he has done several times before, on Saturday, as he completed the night with a triple double, recording 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. It seemed as if we saw two Rajon Rondos today; one who laid dormant during the first three quarters of the night and the other, when Pierce was fouled out, he took over and delivered a fatal 3-pointer(yes, a 3 pointer) in the final minutes to seal the deal for the Celtics.
Rondo had his 9th career triple-double in the post-season and his 22nd overall. The Celtics are 21-1 in those games. Rondo was having a comparatively silent night in the first three quarters but in a sudden change of events in the last quarter, the Celtics increased their 71-68 lead to win the match 85-75. The bottom- line is whenever Rondo is at his best, the Celtics are also at their best.
One might not like their playing style or their attitude, but one cannot deny the Celtic spirit, a spirit which never ceases to die. The present Celtic roster might not look as great as previous championship-winning rosters( 17 to be precise), but they still have it in them and with a young Rondo to lead them through, the Celtics are looking forward to the Eastern Conference Finals.
But this isn’t going to be an easy task as they face an intimidating Miami Heat side, who although had a good overall season, they still look a little bit vulnerable in the post-season. The Celtics will have an uphill task as they head into Miami , which will be a clash of the Old Big-3 (Garnett, Allen, Pierce) against the new Big-3 (Bosh, Wade, James).
When the season began, only a handful would have thought that the Celtics would come this far, but with the sheer talent and experience that the Celtics possess, who knows, they might just be able to pull 0ff a miraculous series win. But for that to happen, the Celtics would have to be at the top of their game from the word go!
