Rare video of Kobe Bryant scoring 36 points against Phoenix Suns in 1996 Summer League

This past week the brightest and most talented upcoming stars of the league went head-to-head in Las Vegas in the Samsung NBA Summer League, looking to make an impression on scouts or their teams to pick them up for the NBA team roster. And athough Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker – the number 1 and 2 overall picks in this year’s draft – did impress, it was two lesser known plaayers who took the trophies home.

Glen Rice Jr. of the Washington Wizards was named the Summer League MVP while Sacramento Kings Summer League roster point guard Ray McCallum was awarded the Finals game MVP.

However, the tradition of players drafted or undrafted having to impress their team or other scouts has been alive for a long time. Yesterday, a video surfaced of Kobe Bryant tearing apart the Phoenix Suns in a Summer League match, scoring 36 points while wearing the number 32 jersey. Notice how even after 18 years in the league his game and style of play is very similar to the one shown in the video.
