Philadelphia take home the Orlando crown

It was a day of two summer leagues in the NBA. While the Summer League in Orlando came to a close, the one in Las Vegas kicked off with its 10th edition.

On the final day of the Orlando NBA Summer League all 10 teams were slated to participate, with the Philadelphia 76ers and Memphis Grizzlies playing for the title of Orlando Summer League Champions. Here are the rest of the match-ups and how they ended:

– Orlando Magic vs Detroit Pistons (Orlando won 96-87)

– Indiana Pacers vs Boston Celtics (Indiana won 95-86)

– Philadelphia 76ers vs Memphis Grizzlies (Philadelphia won 91-75 and were crowned the Orlando Summer League Champions)

Highlights:

– Oklahoma City Thunder vs Miami Heat (Oklahoma won 103-98)

– Houston Rockets vs Brooklyn Nets (Houston won 101-75)

Las Vegas Summer League

Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker

The Las Vegas Summer League, also known as the Samsung Summer League, kicked off on Friday. Consisting of 12 teams, the tournament lasts for 10 days and began with the spotlight heavily focused on the match-up between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks largely due to the fact that the teams had drafted the number 1 and 2 overall picks in this year’s Draft.

Despite a marginally better performance by Jabari Parker (No. 2 overall draft pick), his team the Milwaukee Bucks came up short 70-68 against Andrew Wiggins (No. 1 overall draft pick) and his Cleveland Cavaliers. Here are the highlgihts from the debut of the match-up between the top two players from this year’s draft:

Last year’s Summer League Champions the Golden State Warriors also began on a positive note along with their new Head Coach Steve Kerr courtesy of a win over the Charlotte Hornets 70-58.

No action for Sim Bhullar

It was a disappointing day for all Indians who had pinned their hopes on seeing Indian orgin player Sim Bhullar take the court. Bhullar, who is part of the Summer League team for the Sacramento Kings, did not take the court and did not play, presumably because the coach didn’t think it was a good idea.

The Kings fell 85-69 to the Summer League team of the NBA Champions the San Antonio Spurs. Maybe the loss would lead to a shake-up of the roster which could possibly mean some minutes for Bhullar.

Here are how the rest of the four match-ups went yesterday night in Las Vegas:

New York Knicks vs Dallas Mavericks (New York won 76-64)

Toronto Raptors vs Los Angeles Lakers (Toronto won 88-78)

D-League Selects vs New Orleans Pelicans (New Orleans won 83-81)
