Report: Derrick Rose to sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves
What's the story?
Former league MVP Derrick Rose is all set to reunite with this head coach Tom Thibodeau as reports suggest, he is to sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In case you didn't know
Rose and Thibodeau were player and head coach, respectively, for the Chicago Bulls from 2010 to 2015. The duo had a spectacular first season, where Ross won the MVP (2011) and the team went to the Conference Finals (lost 1-4 to the LeBron James-led Miami Heat) but things went all downhill from there.
Heart of the matter
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski dropped a huge bomb as he reported on Twitter about the Timberwolves signing Rose, who had earlier being waived by the Utah Jazz, where he was traded to by the Cleveland Cavaliers as part of a three-team trade with the Sacramento Kings:
Signing with Cleveland was supposed to save Rose's career, instead, it was filled with controversy. He played only 16 games (starting 7), due to ankle and knee issues, averaging 9.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists. He went on a self-imposed exile during his rehab, similar to his one-day uninformed absence with the New York Knicks last season.
It's a huge reunion in Minnesota because Rose will also play alongside former Bulls' teammates Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson.
What's next?
Since Butler got injured, the T-Wolves have been very inconsistent (2-3). They are now facing a tough 4-game stretch that begins on Thursday night - vs Boston, vs Golden State, @Washington and @Houston.
Author's Take
The only thing the Timberwolves are missing is Jimmy Butler. There is really no reason for Rose to be in Minnesota. They are not short on their guard rotation, he doesn't solve any of their defensive problems without Butler and his offense isn't one exactly to depend on for any kind of spark.
