Reports: Kyrie Irving unlikely to be suspended by Brooklyn Nets after controversial tweet and abrasive press conference
Brooklyn Nets star guard Kyrie Irving continues to find himself in the national spotlight. Irving recently drew criticism after posting a link to a movie with anti-Semitic messages.
Irving's tenure with the Nets has become filled with dramatic events off the court. Irving's tweet stayed up for multiple days before being removed. Since the incident, the Nets have condemned Kyrie's decision to promote the film.
It's also been reported by the New York Post's Brian Lewis that there's no expected suspension forthcoming. Irving recently started in Brooklyn's game against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.
"Nets GM Sean Marks declined comment on whether any in-house discipline was coming, and a league source hadnβt heard of any plans to fine or suspend Irving. As a vice president of t he NBA playersβ association, Irving would have the backing of the union in such an event."
Kyrie Irving finds himself in hot water after controversial tweet
The Brooklyn Nets came into the season hoping to put a nightmare previous season behind them. After the recent situation involving Kyrie Irving, it seems as if the drama has followed them into this year.
Brooklyn is 1-5 on the season after losing 125-116 to the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. The teams play again on Monday night.
Kyrie Irving spoke to the media after the game and appeared frustrated. After being confronted about the tweet, Irving said that he wasn't promoting anything.
"Can you please stop calling it a promotion? What am I promoting? ... Don't dehumanize me up here," Irving said.
The basketball world will wait to see what comes from this situation. Although Irving has found himself in controversy before, this scenario seems to be one of the biggest considering the topic.
Irving was in the national news last season after refusing to receive the vaccination. Irving played in a total of 29 games last season.
After opting into the final year of his contract, Irving is set to be a free agent at the conclusion of this season. That could mean that his time with the Brooklyn Nets is coming to an end. For now, the star point guard will have his focus set on the team's upcoming game.
After hosting the Pacers on Monday night, Brooklyn will end their homestand Tuesday against the Chicago Bulls.
Irving is averaging 30.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season. He's also shooting 47.5%, including 29.3% from 3-point range.
