Dwight Howard rumors: Warriors uninterested in signing 18-year veteran center after multiple workouts

Dwight Howard's two-day meeting with the Golden State Warriors doesn't seem like it will lead to a contract for the former Orlando Magic superstar.

Although the team has notably added Chris Paul to its roster leading up to the 2023-24 NBA season, the team has been linked to rumors regarding a veteran big man as well. According to Shams Charania, that is no longer the case.

Charania, who has become the face of NBA breaking news alongside Adrian Wojnarowski, brought some breaking news to NBA fans this week. As he explained, despite Howard meeting with the Warriors and the rumors regarding the team signing a veteran big man, the franchise has no plans to do so.

His comments come just weeks ahead of the start of training camp and the start of the NBA season next month. With time winding down before the season tips off, it sounds as though there's a possibility of Dwight Howard not finding a team before the 2023-24 season.

As Charania explained via Twitter:

"The Warriors are not expected to sign Dwight Howard or another veteran center ahead of training camp, sources tell me. Howard had a two-day visit with the Warriors this week that included meetings and workouts. ...
"The Warriors are expected now to maintain flexibility to sign a potential big man later in camp, or in the regular season. So, expect Howard to discuss a potential return to the league with any other interested team in the coming week or so."

Looking at the rumors regarding Dwight Howard joining the Golden State Warriors leading up to this point

Over the past few weeks, Dwight Howard's name has been linked to the Golden State Warriors quite a bit.

According to a wide range of reports, Howard was set to meet with the team before then going and working out with Draymond Green and Chris Paul separately.

As Kendra Andrew reported on NBA Today earlier this week, the Warriors are interested in adding a veteran; however, they were viewing Howard as 'just another workout'. As she explained:

Although the team's vets reportedly signed off on the move and gave Howard their backing, the front office has seemingly decided to go another direction. With the Warriors' season opener on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how things unfold for the team as they pursue another title.
