Golden State Warriors Rumors: Defending champs looking to add big man from buyout market

The Golden State Warriors made one trade at the deadline, acquiring Gary Payton II in a four-team deal. The Warriors parted ways with James Wiseman, who was sent to the Detroit Pistons.

The latest rumors now suggest that the defending champions are looking to add a big man from the buyout market.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Warriors team president and general manager Bob Myers discussed his plans moving forward. Myers noted that they would be interested in adding size following Wiseman's trade. Kevon Looney, Draymond Green and JaMychal Green are the only big men on their roster at the moment.

"Yeah, we'll have to look at the buyout market," Myers said. "I think much like last year's deadline, we moved forward with Looney and Draymond, who have kind of split minutes in the regular season. JaMychal, I guess, is who you can call our other big.
"Last year, we also had a couple of non-traditional bigs. Nemanja Bjelica's not in the NBA, so I can talk about him. He was a shooting big who did a nice job and was another good player that helped us. We hope that we have enough, but we'll look and see."

James Wiseman struggled to reach the heights expected of him during his tenure with the Golden State Warriors. However, Wiseman will get a fresh start with the Detroit Pistons, while Golden State now have an energizer in Gary Payton II.

However, the trade left the Warriors a little thin on the frontcourt and there could be some interesting names in the still-developing buyout market.

Who could the Golden State Warriors target in the buyout market?

The Golden State Warriors might have several options in the buyout market. Here are some of the names who could get bought out or waived in the coming days.

Dario Saric

Saric averaged 8.1 points and 4.9 rebounds this season before the Phoenix Suns traded him to the OKC Thunder. If the Thunder decide to buyout his contract, he could be the Nemanja Bjelica-like player Bob Myers is looking for.

DeAndre Jordan

The arrival of Thomas Bryant makes Jordan, a former All-Star, expendable for the Denver Nuggets. He could be a good backup to Kevon Looney and could play 10-15 minutes per game, simply catching a few lobs and grabbing some rebounds.

Serge Ibaka

Ibaka is no longer the player he once was, but could still contribute to a championship team. He can space the floor on offense, while proving solid help defense.
