Golden State Warriors Rumors: Proposed 3-team trade has defending champs acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns

The latest rumors have linked the Golden State Warriors to Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Warriors have faced several issues this season, including inconsistencies, injuries and the future of Draymond Green. The Warriors are tipped to make a trade and possibly save their championship defense.

Jack Simone of Heavy Sports suggested a three-team trade involving the Warriors, Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks. The proposed deal has the defending champions acquiring Towns from the Timberwolves and a second-round pick from the Hawks.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves will get John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic and a first round pick from Atlanta, as well as Moses Moody and two first round picks from the Warriors. The Hawks will receive Draymond Green from Golden State, and Taurean Prince and Austin Rivers from Minnesota.

Jack Simone explained that acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns will benefit all three teams. The Golden State Warriors will replace Draymond Green with Towns, who is among the best young players in the league. Towns will also ensure a longer championship window for Steph Curry.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks will get better defensively with Green, Taurean Prince and Austin Rivers. As for the Minnesota Timberwolves, they could finally give the keys to Anthony Edwards and unleash him into superstardom.

It should also be noted that Towns cannot be traded this season, as he signed an extension in the offseason. For the proposed deal to work, Green will also need to opt into his contract this summer.

Karl-Anthony Towns suffered a non-contact injury on November 28 against the Washington Wizards. There were fears that Towns might have torn his Achilles tendon, but the Minnesota Timberwolves announced that he had only suffered a strained calf.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Towns will miss four to six weeks due to the injury. He's expected to return sometime in January. The Timberwolves are 6-8 since Towns' injury and are currently 11th in the Western Conference standings with a 16-19 record.

Towns was having a down season before his injury, averaging 20.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He was adjusting from the arrival of Rudy Gobert, who was acquired in the offseason. The Timberwolves as a team have failed to make any progress and could miss the postseason.

Anthony Edwards has played great in the absence of Towns, averaging 24.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists since November 30. Missing the playoffs will likely be catastrophic for Minnesota. There was talk of winning a championship over the summer, but the team has disappointed.
