Golden State Warriors Rumors: San Antonio Spurs prefer Moses Moody over James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga for Jakob Poeltl

The Golden State Warriors have been linked with several players recently, including San Antonio Spurs big man Jakob Poeltl. The latest rumors suggest that the Spurs prefer Moses Moody over James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga. The Spurs are likely sellers at the trade deadline, while the Warriors will try to improve their depth.

According to LJ Ellis of SpursTalk, Poeltl is getting plenty of interest from several teams, including the Warriors and the Toronto Raptors. The Spurs are reportedly asking for at least two first-round picks with limited protections for Poeltl.

Meanwhile, the defending champs want to make Wiseman the centerpiece of a potential Poeltl trade. Wiseman has failed to make an impact for the Warriors this season. Golden State even sent him to the NBA G League for some game time.

However, the San Antonio Spurs are not interested in Wiseman. LJ Ellis cited sources with the Spurs organization saying the team wants Moody over Wiseman, as well as Jonathan Kuminga. If the Golden State Warriors would like to complete a deal, they would also need to attach a couple of picks and complementary players to match salaries.

Poeltl is in the final year of his contract with the Spurs and would be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He reportedly wants to remain in San Antonio, where Spurs could offer him a four-year extension worth $58 million. If he decides to enter free agency, though, Poeltl might receive four-year $70 million offers.

If the Golden State Warriors trade for Poeltl, there's the possibility of him being a half-season rental. It's not an ideal scenario considering that they might part ways with a lottery pick in Moody, as well as two future first round picks.

Proposed trade has Golden State Warriors acquiring DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls

The San Antonio Spurs are not the only expected sellers in the upcoming NBA trade season. The Chicago Bulls could also enter the trade market if they continue to struggle. Some, like Bill Simmons and Charles Barkley, have urged the Bulls to start rebuilding and trade their stars.

Jack Simone of Heavy Sports suggested that the Golden State Warriors should trade for DeMar DeRozan. Simone proposed that the Warriors trade James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Donte DiVincenzo, Patrick Baldwin Jr., and a lottery-protected first-round pick for the five-time All-Star.

Simone reckons DeRozan would give Warriors coach Steve Kerr an additional option on offense. DeRozan is averaging 26.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists this season. The only problem with acquiring DeRozan is his age. He's already 33, and the Warriors already have three All-Stars in their 30s.
