LA Lakers Rumors: Lakers predicted to go after Kyrie Irving or Draymond Green in free agency

The LA Lakers are expected to have plenty of cap space this summer, with at just four players on the books for next season. The latest rumors suggest that the Lakers could go after players such as Kyrie Irving and Draymond Green in free agency.

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated predicted that the Lakers could use their cap space to sign either Irving or Green. Mannix also added the possibility of trading their two unprotected first round picks for an established player.

With LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Irving or Green, plus another star will make the Lakers a formidable team.

"In an ideal world, the Lakers use the cap space created by Russell Westbrook's exit next summer to sign Kyrie Irving or Draymond Green, flip a draft pick or two and vault back into contention next season," Mannix wrote.

Chris Mannix also pointed out that LeBron James' decision to extend his contract with the LA Lakers was a mistake for both sides. The extension restricts the team's front office to make moves and surround "The King" with the right pieces. It has not been the case in the past two seasons, with the Lakers still needing a shooter at the moment.

Mannix added that if the Lakers can't add a prominent name in free agency, they will likely have the same built roster from the last two seasons. James has been sending subtle hints to the front office to make some moves and not waste his 20th season.

At 38 years old, James is averaging 29.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.6 assists this season. He recently exploded for 47 points on his birthday in a win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Can the LA Lakers sign Kyrie Irving or Draymond Green?

The LA Lakers will have plenty of money to sign a big-name free agent in the offseason. But can the Lakers sign someone like Kyrie Irving or Draymond Green?

Irving will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, but the Brooklyn Nets have improved since he returned from suspension. The Nets have won 12 games in a row and are currently second in the Eastern Conference standings.

Brooklyn are also just one game behind the top spot that is occupied by the Boston Celtics. If the Nets and Irving can finish the season on a high note, there's a chance of him staying and signing a new deal.

Meanwhile, Draymond Green has a player option for next season. With everything that happened with Jordan Poole, some people are predicting Green to enter free agency. He's also expected to want a max contract despite turning 33 years old in March.

Irving is a much better fit for the LA Lakers due to his skills and shooting, while Green presents a different style. The former Defensive Player of the year brings energy and defense, but lacks scoring.
