NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks potential landing spot for Goran Dragic

The Dallas Mavericks have emerged as a potential landing spot for Goran Dragic, as per recent NBA rumors. With the former Chicago Bulls guard being waived Tuesday to create a roster spot, several teams are expected to pursue him.

Goran Dragic finds himself without a team midway through the season yet again after a failed stint with the Bulls. In 51 games with Chicago, Dragic averaged 6.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

Although his numbers haven't been impressive, Dragic is expected to receive a lot of attention in the buyout market. As a savvy veteran who can create his own shots and make plays, Dragic can be of use to a lot of playoff-bound teams.

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson recently discussed the possibility of Goran Dragic reuniting with his former team, the Miami Heat. According to Jackson, acquiring Dragic would be a bit of a task as it depends upon Kyle Lowry's injury situation. The Heat could make use of a guard like Dragic, who has thrived in the system in the past.

In light of this, Jackson also presented the Dallas Mavericks as a potential landing spot for the guard. Given that Dragic and Mavs star Luka Doncic represented Slovenia at EuroBasket last year, Dallas could benefit from the chemistry they share on the floor.

Will the Dallas Mavericks pursue Goran Dragic?

The Dallas Mavericks made a lot of interesting moves ahead of the trade deadline. They acquired Kyrie Irving in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, instantly becoming title contenders.

While Doncic and Irving make for a formidable starting pair, Dallas does have a gaping hole in the backup guard rotation.

As constructed, the Mavs have Frank Ntilikina as their backup point guard. With McKinley Wright IV and Jaden Hardy filling out the rest of the point guard rotation, Dallas doesn't look very threatening on paper.

As such, pursuing Goran Dragic makes sense. His arrival could also help reduce Doncic's minutes and preserve him for the playoffs. However, signing Dragic may be a bit of a challenge as the Mavericks have already filled out their open roster spot with Justin Holiday.
