NBA Rumors: Jimmy Butler interested in reunion with former 76ers teammate on Eastern Conference team

A reunion between Jimmy Butler and Ben Simmons could happen, according to Bob Windrem of the Nets Daily. Windrem shared on The Brooklyn Podcast that Butler is interested in teaming up with the Aussie player again.

Butler’s contract with the Miami Heat is nearing its end. After this season, he can choose to stay if offered a favorable extension. No extension offer has been made yet.

"Jimmy Butler’s interest in the Brooklyn Nets is very, very real. Part of it is New York, part of it is that Bernie Lee who is Ben Simmons’ age, is very happy with how his client has been dealt with by the Nets," Windrem said.
"I have no idea how the Nets feel about it. It would seem that considering the way the roster looks, considering the way the cap space looks, considering the way the draft stash looks, that they wouldn't be interested in him. He doesn't fit the timeline."

Butler and Simmons played together with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2018-19 season. Together, the two helped the Sixers reach the playoffs but were eliminated in the second round against the eventual champions, the Toronto Raptors.

Heat coach expects Jimmy Butler to stay

Jimmy Butler's potential contract extension holds his future with the Heat. With his current deal about to expire, a new contract will change how the Butler sweepstakes will play out.

Before Bob Windrem shared the rumors that the six-time All-Star could join the Nets, Heat's assistant head coach Caron Butler hinted that Butler wants to stay.

"I think Jimmy's just ready to play basketball," Butler said the Locked On Heat podcast. "I think at this point, it's all about winning with him. We know he loves being in Miami. We love him being in Miami. And I just think that it's going to be a fun season."

Butler's future with the Heat is still up in the air as no one is sure if he'll get a new deal or not.
