NBA Trade Rumors: Bucks receive interest from 3 teams to offload $9.4 million guard to seek relief from second apron

The Milwaukee Bucks are looking to offload Pat Connaughton ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline for the 2024-25 season, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Additionally, there have been reports that Connaughton has received interest from three teams in the league for a potential trade.

The Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors, and Detroit Pistons are reportedly interested in signing the seasoned player. According to Scotto, moving Connaughton might help the team avoid becoming a second-apron luxury team. At this point in the season, Milwaukee is $6.5 million over the second apron.

Connaughton, who is anticipated to earn $9.4 million this season, can alleviate the team's salary situation. The wingman will also get $9.4 million in 2025–2026 if he exercises his player option in the summer.

The Arlington-born has had a down year, playing only 21 games, averaging 4.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. The former Portland Trail Blazers player isn't performing at his best this year, only making 40.2% shooting from the field and 28.8% from the deep.

He was once an essential player for Milwaukee as he played an important role in their 2021 championship run. However, the team has not utilized him as much this season, and he has had an inconsistent role in the team's rotation.

He has been at Milwaukee since the 2018-19 season. In the seven seasons he's played for the Bucks, the 6-foot-5 guard has averaged 6.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists.

Bucks rumored to ship veteran big man at the trade deadline

The Bucks want to shake up their roster this season. However, the rumored changes could entirely break up the 2021 title squad that helped Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton win the Larry O'Brien trophy.

One name that has been rumored to be moved this season is Bobby Portis Jr. The sixth man has given the team much-needed energy off the bench, but FanSided's Franco Luna mentioned Portis being close to taking his bow.

"Bobby Portis is a fan favorite in Milwaukee, but his skill set makes him highly tradable," Luna wrote. "Portis is a walking double-double with a knack for providing energy off the bench or stepping up as a starter when needed. His ability to stretch the floor, crash the boards and bring intensity on both ends of the court could appeal to contenders looking for frontcourt depth.
"While Portis is a key piece for the Milwaukee Bucks, they might be tempted to leverage his value if they believe they can upgrade their roster for another championship push."

Portis will earn $12.5 million this season and has a $13.4 million player option for next season.
