NBA Trade Rumors: Steph Curry and Draymond Green could both be moved in blockbuster Warriors deal
The Golden State Warriors are reeling after a 12-3 start to the season, going 9-18 over their last 27 games. Things are looking bleak in the Bay as Golden State approaches the end of their dynasty led by Steph Curry and Draymond Green.
The Warriors' championship-winning trio has already broken up with the loss of Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks, but Yahoo Sports presented a scenario that entails moving on from Steph Curry and Draymond Green.
Yahoo Sports analyst Kevin O'Connor presented three trade destinations for the Warriors' Hall-of-Fame duo, most prominently diving into the potential of a Houston Rockets trade for Curry and Green.
Here is a look at O'Connor's proposed trade and the full details of the deal.
Rockets trade package to Warriors for Steph Curry and Draymond Green
In this hypothetical world with Kevin O'Connor, the Rockets are abandoning the pipe dream of acquiring Miami Heat superstar, Jimmy Butler and are instead focusing their attention on Steph Curry and Draymond Green. Houston is expected to be a massive buyer nearing the trade deadline and is looking to bolster their young roster to compete immediately, hence their interest in Curry and Green.
O'Connor's trade proposes the Warriors give up Steph Curry, Draymond Gren, Buddy Hield, and Lindy Waters III in exchange for Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore, Fred VanVleet, Steven Adams, Jae'Sean Tate, four future unprotected first-round picks and three future first-round swaps.
Houston is moving off two young pieces in Sheppard and Whitmore, three expiring deals, and essentially their entire future of draft capital. Sheppard isn't getting much playing time at all after being selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, but Whitmore has shown the ability to be a productive scorer in small sample sizes through 71 games in his young career.
Most importantly for Houston, they are maintaining their established young core of Jalen Green, Alperen Şengün, Dillon Brooks, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., and Tari Eason.
As for the Warriors, they may already be out of the race this season. At the halfway point of the season, Golden State is scratching and clawing with just a .500 record to show for it. Sitting at just 5-5 over their last 10 games and coming off a 40-point blowout versus the Boston Celtics, it could be time to blow it up in the Bay.
