Stephen Curry backs Draymond Green for trash-talking a Washington Wizards fan: “Take that smoke the whole game”
Draymond Green is more than just an All-Star and NBA champion. He makes his teammates better. Stephen Curry benefits from sharing the floor with him. What Green does best on the court isn't his elite passing or rebounding ability. However, Curry believes it's a good part of Green's game.
His most impactful quality is his ability to get under an opponent's skin. He's very good at it and does it quite often. Green also manages to get fans of opposing teams to rally against him during road games.
During the Golden State Warriors' win against the Washington Wizards on Monday, Stephen Curry implied that some Wizards fans were talking trash. Of course, Draymond Green was the one who instigated the exchange of words.
"We always love engaged Draymond no matter who puts the gas in the tank.” He said the fan broke a “cardinal rule” and walked out early: “Take that smoke the whole game.”
Stephen Curry loves Draymond Green's trash talk
Draymond Green's trash talk can frustrate his Warriors teammates at times. Often, it will lead to him getting technical fouls or being thrown out of games. But they still all love him for it. At the end of the day, it's part of what makes Green special.
Green said his mentality came from his childhood and growing up in a tough neighborhood. It was a 'man-eat-man' world and he had to find a way to survive.
“There is an art to trash talking. If you grew up in Saginaw, Michigan, it’s naturally given to you. For me personally, growing up the way I did, you can’t survive if you can’t talk on the court.”
“You go out there quiet if you want to. You play as good as you want. If you’re quiet, they’re going to think you’re soft. They’re going to try to bully you. That’s just kind of the way I learned.”
Draymond Green will trash talk anybody. He's even done it to Stephen Curry's brother Seth Curry. It must've been really awkward for him to witness. Should he stick up for his teammate or his brother?
Seth Curry had this to say about the incident:
“Steph was there at the free-throw line in between us,” Seth laughed. “He was acting all awkward. He didn’t know what to do. I’m his brother. You're his guy he’s been going to war with for 10 years. Steph didn’t know what to do at the line.
“But I was loving it though, my guy.”
Draymond Green doesn't care if your brother is on the opposing team. He even trash-talked Tim Duncan at one point. Shortly after, he realized he had made a mistake:
"Either, one, he is not going to talk back because he has no respect for me. Or, two, he is not going to talk back because that is who he is. Or, three, both. I figured then that was the last time I would talk junk to Tim. And that was the last time."
Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have won four NBA championships as teammates.
