"Steph has work to do" - Nick Wright believes Steph Curry still stands outside 'the conversation of all-time pantheon'

Steph Curry is widely regarded as the second greatest point guard of all-time. While the four-time NBA champion's shooting ability has changed the game, Nick Wright does not believe that the Golden State Warriors star is in the conversation of the all-time greats.

During an appearance on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," Wright stated:

"Magic Johnson played 12 years in the league before he had to retire due to HIV.
"In those 12 seasons, he was top-three MVP nine times. He was First Team All-NBA nine times. He made the NBA Finals nine times. So 75 percent of his years, his team was in the Finals, he was considered at the end of the year the best, second-best, or third-best player in the league. He won the MVP award three times. He won five rings.
"Steph has work to do, but to me what Steph has done is put himself, not in the conversation of the all-time pantheon, but right there. The guys he is chasing now to me are Shaq, Hakeem, Kobe, and Bird. Those are the next guys up before you get to Magic, Kareem, Michael, and LeBron."

While Steph Curry has had a marvelous career, most would agree that he falls short of Magic Johnson as the greatest point guard of all-time. Despite being forced into retirement at the age of 31, the LA Lakers legend has one of the greatest resumes in NBA history.

How has Steph Curry performed this season?

Steph Curry is in the midst of yet another strong season. The Golden State Warriors star is currently averaging 29.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.3 blocks per game. Furthermore, Curry is shooting 49.7% from the field, 42.8% from 3-point range and 91.1% from the free-throw line.

The two-time NBA MVP has an opportunity to join his own 2015-2016 campaign as the only season in NBA history in which a player has scored at least 30.0 points per game while shooting at least 50.0% from the field, 40.0% from 3-point range and 90.0% from the free-throw line.

Curry, however, is in a position which very few stars reach where stats are convincingly outweighed by accolades. The four-time NBA champion is now looking to climb the all-time list rather than establish himself. To continue climbing up the all-time rankings, he will need to continue winning championships and compiling accolades.
