Stephen Curry To Miss Two Weeks With Sprained Right Ankle
What's the story
Stephen Curry will be out of action for the next two weeks due to a sprained right ankle, the Golden State Warriors announced late on Tuesday night.
In case you didn't know
Over the course of his career in the NBA, Curry has overcome numerous leg issues, primarily with his ankle. In fact, things got so serious in 2012 that the repeated ankle problems were threatening his basketball career.
Heart of the matter
Curry sprained his right ankle in the final minute of the Warriors' game against the Pelicans in New Orleans. The two-time MVP was closing out on defense when his right foot twisted awkwardly as it landed on E'Twaun Moore's foot.
Although the Warriors eventually came away with the win to improve to 4-0 on their current road trip, this win wasn't easy. Golden State was down by as many as 20 at halftime but for the second time in the season, they overcome that halftime deficit to win the game (first time was against the Philadelphia 76ers).
Curry's ankle twisting left a sour note to the win in New Orleans as only a couple minutes prior, Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins had gotten ejected after getting a war of words.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the MRI' done on Curry's ankle in Charlotte showed no structural damage but the team is being cautious and will only re-evaluate the two-time Champion in a couple of weeks.
What next?
The Warriors have a couple more games remaining on their mammoth East-heavy six-game road trip against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday and the Detroit Pistons on Friday.
Author's take
Golden State should be just fine without Curry, instead, it might make the team's bench that much better. Over their past few years of contending for championships, the team and franchise have only grown stronger and better from injuries to their star players, and this scenario should be no different.
In terms of his return, I'm sure the reigning NBA Champions will take the most cautious approach possible, given that their final goal is to win the Championship and have him healthy and fit in June.
