Steve Kerr talks about President Trump and Warriors' White House visit
What's the story?
The head coach of the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr, was a recent guest on the Pod Save America podcast. They discussed the tradition of the NBA Champion visiting the White House.
In case you didn't know...
The Golden State head coaching job is the first ever coaching job for Kerr; who played 15 seasons in the NBA. As a player, he's a five-time NBA Champion including four with the Chicago Bulls and one with the San Antonio Spurs.
The heart of the matter...
After Warrior guard Steph Curry said that he didn't want to go to the White House, President Trump stated on Twitter that he withdrew his invitation for the team to visit. Kerr would talk about that situation more with the following quote:
"I don't think we would have gone, and I think he knew that. Several of us had been very critical of the president in the past year, and it would have been awkward, for sure."
Not just Kerr, but many on the Warriors are outspoken on many of President Trump's policies. A trip for the team to Washington D.C. hasn't been entirely ruled out according to Kerr:
"We've been invited by various members of Congress to visit, so maybe we can do something like that," he said. "We've talked about doing what we usually do in D.C., which is visiting one of the many museums or historical sites."
What's next?
The Golden State Warriors (5-3), much like their NBA Finals counterparts the Cleveland Cavaliers are off to a sluggish start after a surprising loss to the Detroit Pistons. They will take on the San Antonio Spurs (4-3) on TNT this Thursday night.
Author's take...
Without getting into much of a political discussion, I have to say that I do not blame Kerr at all for not wanting to go the White House under President Trump.
