Tanner Holden describes the moment he hits the buzzer beater against Rutgers: “I shot it and couldn’t really see…Then 15 guys are rushing me”

Ohio State senior guard Tanner Holden scored three points in Thursday night's game. It turns out that those three points were the night's most important.

In a showdown against Rutgers, Ohio State were struggling to take care of business at home. With five seconds remaining in the game, Ohio State found themselves down by two points. Rutgers had one free throw left to potentially make it a three-point game.

After a missed shot, Ohio State pushed the ball up the floor for a last-second opportunity. Senior guard Tanner Holden would initially pass the ball before getting it back at the last second.

A three-point shot as time was expiring floated through the air. That resulted in an emphatic victory at home for the Ohio State Buckeyes. It was pandominum, as the Buckeyes continued to string together impressive victories. Ohio State are now 7-2 for the season and have won two consecutive games.

Speaking after the game, senior guard Tanner Holden spoke about the madness of the last second play. Holden admitted that he couldn't really see what happened because a Rutgers defender got in the way.

“I shot it and couldn’t really see because No. 3 (Rutgers’ Mawot Mag) was in my way, but I heard the crowd go crazy and I celebrated after that, and then 15 guys are rushing me,"
"I don’t even remember (seeing it), honestly. I think I might’ve saw it go through, but I heard the crowd more. I think that reassurance helped me.”

The victory by Ohio State was a massive one, especially given their record for the year. The Buckeyes have been a solid team early on in 2022-23. Although the team has two losses, those defeats have come to respectable opponents.

Ohio State lost to Duke and San Diego State, both of which were ranked in the top 25 at the time. That will mean something when it comes to their overall ranking around the country.

The latest win by the Buckeyes will have them trending in the right direction. The team has some fascinating talents on their roster, including freshman forward Brice Sensabaugh. Ohio State will face another tough challenge this Saturday as they play North Carolina. The Tar Heels have been disappointing early on, meaning they will be desperate for a win.
