“A better fit and Steph’s gonna probably have like 62 points” - Shannon Sharpe believes Steph Curry-LeBron James pairing is more dangerous than Magic Johnson-Michael Jordan duo
NBA analyst Shannon Sharpe believes LeBron James and Steph Curry would make for a better duo than Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan. Sharpe feels Curry's shooting ability and James' basketball IQ will work perfectly together.
Speaking on Undisputed, Sharpe said:
"LeBron and Steph are a better fit, and Steph’s gonna probably have like 62 points.”
James, Jordan, Johnson and Curry are four of the greatest players in NBA history. But because outside shooting has become more dominant, Sharpe feels Curry and James would have the edge.
"Michael and Magic both need the ball to be effective. Magic is really great at making else better. Jordan was great at making himself better. He was not the facilitator that Magic is."
Sharpe also feels James and Curry would have more chemistry than Jordan and Johnson.
James and Curry have played together in All-Star games, showcasing their chemistry.
"Steph just needs the ball to shoot it. Don't get me wrong, he can dance with the ball. I saw LeBron in the All-Star game finding Steph and Steph was getting easy looks. In today's game, with competent role players, I'm going to take LeBron and Steph," Sharpe added.
How would a LeBron James-Steph Curry vs Magic Johnson-Michael Jordan encounter go down?
James' size would arguably benefit him and Curry. His physicality might also prove too much to handle. Though Jordan and Johnson are strong defensively, pressing James would give Curry extra space to work with.
The trouble for Jordan and Johnson is their lack of outside shooting as they were never capable 3-point shooters. Johnson would undoubtedly provide endless opportunities for Jordan. But Curry and James would do the same thing, in addition to being better outside shooters.
Ultimately, Sharpe may be right in his assessment that in the modern game, a James-Curry duo would likely emerge victorious.
