UBA Pro Basketball: Delhi Capitals run over poor Hyderabad Sky 93-64

Hyderabad Sky's Himanshu Jhangda tries to get out of a halfcourt trap set by Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals remained undefeated as they ran over a poor Hyderabad Sky team 93-64 at the Sri Chatrapathi Shivaji stadium in Pune.

Ajay Sharma top-scored for Delhi with 18 points and Mahesh Padmanabhan was the main man for Hyderabad again with 14 points.

The Capitals dominated the Sky from the first minute and Hyderabad never looked like they were in the game at all. With this loss, Hyderabad remain without a win in the tournament, and looking at the way they played today it is highly unlikely they’ll make the playoffs.

Delhi’s second-string side got the better of Hyderabad

Delhi Capitals took an early 6 point lead and the team from the North division never looked back as they consolidated their lead ever since. With most of their team on the bench, the youngsters got a chance to excel in this game.

India player Joginder Singh of the Sky together with teammate Mahesh were the only ones trying their best to deal with the Delhi defence. Apart from the 3-pointer early in the game, Mahesh who has top scored for the Sky in every game couldn’t do much.

Joginder, known for his impressive three-point shooting, had an off day as he didn’t convert a single shot from outside the three point line.

Delhi impressed from the first minute as their coach Mukesh played every player on the bench and their rotation meant that no player was really singled out to be their best.

When Ajay Singh of the Capitals hit a three, the score read 18-4 in Delhi’s favour. They were running away with the game, and the Sky showed no fight playing a second string Delhi team.

Sky forward Edwin was also responsible for Hyderabad’s poor shooting after missing shot after shot giving Delhi easy turnovers to seize the advantage.

The Delhi core containing Vinay Kaushik, Sachin, and Ramesh didn’t’ play for the majority of the first half, but by the end of it, they had a mammoth 30 point lead with the scoreboard reading 46-16.

A depleted Hyderabad team came out strongly in the second half with Edwin scoring a jumper and getting a foul for a three-point play for the Sky. Ganesh Patil scored another magnificent layup to put some pressure on the Capitals early on.

Delhi’s second string team contained Yudhvir Singh, Ayush Sharma, and an impressive Raj Aditya. With three minutes remaining in the third quarter, Delhi were cruising at 61-28 and it seemed like Hyderabad had already given up on the game.

The crowd who were mostly silent because of the nature of the game, had something to cheer when Nigerian Edwin hit a Dunk and hung for a while to give the photographers a bit of air time.

Finally, Delhi ran over this Hyderabad team to register their third successive win of the UBA while the Sky remain winless.
