Usain Bolt to play in NBA All Star Celebrity Game 2013

A while ago, I wrote 10 Reasons Why Manchester United need to sign Usain Bolt. This right here is almost 10 times better for me. Getting to watch the fastest man on the planet in a basketball game on the biggest stage in basketball. Usain Bolt will be playing in a NBA game. Not exactly a regular season game, but in the 2013 Sprint All Star Celebrity Game on 15 February as part of the All Star weekend.

The players will be divided into two teams, East and West. Here’s the full lineup of the All Star celebrity game:

MVP Kevin Hart (“Real Husbands of Hollywood”);
Ne-Yo (R&B/pop star);
Nick Cannon (“Real Husbands of Hollywood”);
Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games);
Trey Songz (R&B Singer/Actor);
Usain Bolt (Olympic Gold Medal Sprinter);
Arne Duncan (Secretary of Education);
Terrence Jenkins (“E! News,” Anchor);
Common (Rapper/Actor);
John Schriffen (ABC News Correspondent);
Ryen Russillo (ESPN Host);

NBA Legends Dikembe Mutombo (eight-time NBA All-Star),
Clyde Drexler (ten-time NBA All-Star),
Sean Elliott (two-time NBA All-Star),
Bruce Bowen (NBA legend);

WNBA stars Tamika Catchings ( Indiana Fever)
Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx).

Of the players listed above, I’ve written about Arne Duncan and his account of playing basketball with Obama. The rest of the players all seem to be able-bodied and game ready. Hopefully someday, Eminem will participate in the All Star celebrity game. This time, the teams will be coached by James Harden of the hosts, the Houston Rockets, and Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder, coaching West and East respectively. Queen Latifah (Rapper/Singer/Actress) and Samantha Harris (TV Host) will be the assistant coaches.

The All Star weekend will be a star-studded affair, with events such as the All Star game, the celebrity game, the rising stars challenge, and a lot of challenges such as the skills challenge, the 3 point shootout, dunk contest and the shooting stars challenge. Stay tuned here for coverage of the same.

Although the announcement does come with a disclaimer that the rosters are subject to change without notice. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this guy doesn’t get off the roster:
