Vince Carter proclaims there's 'no chance' of Mavericks' challenged call to be overturned - "Where's the confusion?... Lot of mishaps, brain-farts"

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has suggested that he will protest their 127-125 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Eight-time NBA All-Star Vince Carter does not believe the call has a chance to be overturned. Speaking on ESPN's NBA Today, 'Vinsanity' stated:

"The chances it gets overturned? No chance. No chance. Respectfully to Mark Cuban, he said the announcers said it was Mavs ball - he was wrong - the officials said that it was the Mavs ball - that was wrong - and that's where it all went south for them. It was a lot of confusion and lack of communication on a lot of people's parts.
"If you noticed when the team walked back on the court, the ball was out in front of the Golden State Warriors bench. Not one player is down there to take the ball out even if you think it's your ball as a Dallas Maverick. The confusion could've been handled if your player is down there taking the ball out and he's like, 'Wait, you said it's our ball.'
"Their five guys were on the other end of the court so where's the confusion? It was just a lot of mishaps there, brain-farts, whatever you choose to call it. Regardless of who's right, who's wrong, not one Maverick either said, 'Wait, wait, it's supposed to be our ball' or the guy who's supposed to take the ball out never made it to that end of the court."

The play in question occurred with 1:54 remaining in the third quarter and resulted in an easy two points for the Golden State Warriors. While the Dallas Mavericks lost the game by just two points, it is important to note that their opponent allowed an uncontested 3 at the end of the game. Furthermore, it appears that Dallas simply forgot which side of the court it was defending.

What did Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban say about the third-quarter play?

Following the conclusion of Wednesday night's contest between the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors, Mark Cuban took to Twitter, stating:

"The ref called Mavs ball . The announcer announced it. Then there was a timeout . During the time out the official changed the call and never told us. Then when they saw us line up as if it were our ball, he just gave the ball to the warriors. Never said a word to us They got an easy basketball. Crazy that it would matter in a 2 point game. Worst officiating non call mistake possibly in the history of the NBA . All they had to do was tell us and they didn't."

For those wondering about the play with 1:54 to go on the 3rd, let me explain what happened. The ref called Mavs ball . The announcer announced it. Then there was a timeout . During the time out the official changed the call and never told us. Then when they saw us line up as… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

While the referee did point toward the Mavericks bench, he did so to signal a mandatory television timeout after indicating that it was the Warriors ball. Although the announcer may have been confused, his announcement is not an official ruling by the referees. Furthermore, even if Dallas believed the wrong team received the ball, it doesn't explain why it was on the wrong side of the court.
