Are the Golden State Warriors heading to back-to-back titles?
Golden State Warriors are unstoppable and ready to repeat what they unexpectedly did last year: wear the NBA ring.
LeBron James is considered as the best player in the NBA this period and it is more than obvious that his team is always one of the favorites to win the championship. Last year though, it was a complete doubt whether he could succeed in it, as it was his first season, after many years of absence from his hometown, in Cleveland Cavaliers. With Cavs, he reached the finals and everything was magical until the time Stephen Curry led Golden State Warriors to the title.
It is one of those moments when you don't completely expect it, but it has also happened in the past with Dallas Mavericks (2011). Besides, it has been proved that in the NBA everything is possible, from players like Jeremy Lin to shine, to teams like Oklahoma City Thunder to play a huge role in the league and have two of the most promising players (Westbrook, Durant).
This season, Golden State is showing that their last year's win was not by accident. A 14-0 start, an unprecedented record, can tell everything, not only for last season but also for this one. Their roster has the same players, who seem much better and much more confident than the last term; Curry has become in just one year the perfect leader and teammate.
Even the head coach, Steve Kerr, who has built that team, doesn't even need to be there -due to the problem with his back- and the interim head coach, Luke Walton, has applied with the most appropriate way his mentor’s creation.
After the epic match at Los Angeles against the Clippers, nothing seems anymore capable of stopping Warriors in their way to their 2nd consecutive title, unless LeBron takes it too personally and will want revenge with Cleveland.
Warriors are the only team still unbeaten in the NBA and seem invincible while every other team can be beaten by anyone. Golden State's chemistry is light years above any opponent of theirs in the best championship in the world, but of course, this doesn't guarantee anything, as another contender of the title can improve so much in the season that could be in the position to surpass the championship holders.
Besides, maybe what the NBA Champions do this period is just an illusion, a run from last year's finals, but their ability and power in the court show they can continue like that until the end of the season. Some say that even an 82-0 for them is not a difficult achievement. For most, this is an overstatement and it is almost impossible Warriors to keep on winning without losing a single game.
It is still too early and no one knows what will happen in the next months and mostly in the playoffs, but the reigning Champions have already made it clear that it will be very hard for any team to take the championship from them, because their intention to keep it looks stronger than ever.
