Way too early predictions for 2028 Team USA Men's Basketball: Roster, coaches and more
The 2028 Team USA Men's Basketball roster for the Los Angeles Olympics could look much different than it has over the past decade, especially at the Paris Olympics this year. It's likely the last time we see LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant suit up for the Americans at the international level.
The 2028 roster could feature rising stars around the league who could be established superstars four years later. Not only that, but there could be changes in the coaching staff. Steve Kerr could call time on his USA coaching career, opening the pathway for a new leader to take on the responsibility.
Here are some early predictions for Team USA Men's basketball from a roster and coaching perspective, among other things.
Predicting the 2028 Team USA Basketball Roster
Guards
The USA had tremendous guard depth over the years at the FIBA level. That's likely to be the case in 2028. If they continue playing at a high level until 2028, Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton seem like locks to seal their place for the LA Olympics. Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Maxey are the other players who could get a spot on the team.
All five players would be in their primes, while Booker, Edwards and Haliburton would elevate the experience factor at the FIBA level.
Forwards
The forward and wing depth could include renowned names like two-time gold-medalist Jayson Tatum, 2023 FIBA World Cup participant Paolo Banchero, 2025 consensus No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg and reigning NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown.
Tatum and Brown would be the veterans on this team, having been around for a while for the USA. Brown hasn't featured in the Olympics but was on the 2019 FIBA World Cup team that finished seventh.
Centers
Bam Adebayo and Anthony Davis' impressive play in Paris gives them another shot at Olympic gold in 2028, provided their production and level of play don't regress by much.
Meanwhile, the third option at the center could be Pistons' prospect Jalen Duren. The former lottery pick has the build and upside to be an invaluable player at the FIBA level, where size and length can be crucial.
Predicting the 2028 Team USA Basketball's next HC
Steve Kerr might not lead Team USA Men's Basketball at the 2028 LA Olympics. One of his top assistants, Erik Spoelstra, seems like the ideal replacement. Ty Lue could remain on the staff as an assistant, while OKC Thunder HC Mike Daigneault could make the staff.
