What happened to Kyrie Irving's mom? NBA star makes emotional revelation during Twitch streamĀ

Kyrie Irving's mom, Elizabeth Ann Irving, passed away before her son became an NBA star. His mom is Lakota, which is why the Dallas Mavericks guard has embraced his Native American heritage.

Irving is often seen as one of the most controversial basketball players. Despite his incredible skills on the court, the eight-time All-Star has been quite problematic, gaining a lot of negative publicity over the past few years.

The Mavericks guard is very outspoken, so it's not surprising that he also talked about his mother. Unfortunately, Elizabeth is no longer with us and she can't watch her son be one of the best basketball players in the world.

Kyrie Irving's mom died when he was only four

Kyrie Irving's mom died when she was only 29. She passed away on Sep. 9, 1996, when Kyrie was only four years old. Due to this, the NBA superstar has never gotten a chance to be close to his mother.

Elizabeth was originally Cynthia Janette White Mountain, but her name was changed when she was adopted. Her mother, Meredith Marie Mountain, was a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

Despite missing his mother for a long time, the former NBA champion does his best to keep the memory of her alive. He visited the Standing Rock Sioux Nation in 2018 and even went through a naming ceremony in 2021.

Kyrie has fully embraced his heritage and is proud to share it with the rest of the world.

Kyrie Irving's father is also interesting

Kyrie Irving's father, Drederick Irving, was also a basketball player. Due to his career, his family moved to Australia in 1992, where his son was eventually born. Drederick played for the Bulleen Boomers of the South East Australian Basketball League.

What's interesting about Drederick Irving is that he is one of the survivors of the September 11 attacks in New York City.

This happened only five years after he lost his wife and it must have been a very tough situation for the Irving family. However, Kyrie has found his way by following in his father's footsteps and has become one of the best basketball players in the world.
