What did Karl-Anthony Towns say about Anthony Edwards' diet: All you need to know

Karl-Anthony Towns recently criticized Anthony Edwards for not resorting to a healthy diet. The Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star forward wasn't impressed with how Edwards took care of his body and nutrition after the 2020 draft's #1 pick got off to an inconsistent start to the season. Here's what KAT said:

"Maybe I could do a better job of teaching him how to take care of his body, diet and everything. That'll be on me. I know you all think it's funny up here when he talks about Popeye's and all that shit.
"That doesn't make me happy to hear. We're high-level athletes. But also, that falls on me too, you know. The old cliché falls on you. Everyone wants to take the blame, but it's on all of us."

Anthony Edwards dropped 11 points in his season debut, followed by consecutive 30-point outings in the next two games. Edwards produced a nine-point effort in the Timberwolves' loss against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday (October 24th). That game was on the second night of a back-to-back. Edwards admitted that he was struggling during those games.

Karl-Anthony Towns believes Edwards needs to improve his eating habits if he struggles with back-to-back games. Towns has been the team's cornerstone and leader over the last few years. The former #1 pick tried to display accountability from a leadership perspective.

Karl-Anthony Towns criticized for his comments on Anthony Edwards' diet

Karl-Anthony Towns offered constructive criticism to teammate Anthony Edwards when talking about the latter's diet. However, KAT's comments weren't appreciated by many around the NBA. ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins was among those individuals.

Perkins wasn't impressed with Towns going public with his criticism of Edwards.

"It's unacceptable," ESPN NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins said of the comments. "As KAT continues to grow in a leadership role he can't do those type of things. That's the kind of conversation you gotta have behind closed doors. [Edwards] is young.
"He's very confident and he's going to continue to find his way, but KAT have to remember, Kevin Garnett was one of his veteran leaders. He didn't out him publicly and I know he had some things that he had to clean up. Hell, he had to work on himself getting in shape and learning how to diet and nutrition."

Anthony Edwards bounced back with his third 30-point outing in four games after this incident. The Minnesota Timberwolves will hope Karl-Anthony Towns' comments don't affect the locker room environment.

Edwards and Towns are crucial to their hopes of making a deep playoff push as their two best players. Any potential tension between the two stars would inevitably hamper the team's chances of winning at a high level.
