When Bronny and Bryce James graded dad LeBron James' spectacular performance 7 years ago

More than seven years ago, the two sons of then-Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James shared insights about their dad's MVP-like performance.

On Nov. 18, 2017, the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the LA Clippers in a thrilling 118-113 OT win at the Quicken Loans Arena (now called Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse). LeBron led all scorers with 39 points, 14 rebounds and six assists.

In the middle of the postgame interview, LeBron grabbed his sons Bryce and Bronny. The reporter asked Bronny (then 13) about his comments on his dad's performance.

"He did good, he did good," Bronny exclaimed.

Further, the reporter asked what grade James' kids would give their father.

"A plus," Bryce (then 10) responded.
"A minus," Bronny answered.

LeBron explained that his kids are tough on him, and he's a part of probably the toughest household among his Cavaliers teammates.

"If I did A minus, I gotta be A plus on Monday in Detroit. So gotta get better," LeBron said.

LeBron James' 19 combined points in the fourth quarter and overtime helped seal the win for the Cavs. He made crucial plays as well, including the 3-pointer that sent the game to overtime. James also gave the Cavs its first lead of the game 19 seconds into overtime.

The Clippers were bannered by All-Star forward Blake Griffin. The Cavs coach that season (2017-18) was Tyronn Lue. Lue is now in his fifth season as the LA Clippers coach.

Savannah James is regularly seen supporting her husband at games either alone or accompanied by the couple's three children.

On Feb. 7, 2023, Savannah and the kids were sitting courtside during one of the most historic games in NBA history, as LeBron passed six-time NBA champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the league's all-time leading scorer. The three children, Bronny (20), Bryce (17) and Zhuri (10), recorded their congratulatory video messages for their father.

LeBron James also made history this year when his eldest son played with him during an NBA game. They are the first father-son duo to play in the same NBA game. The Lakers drafted Bronny with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. After the feat, LeBron said:

"For a father, it means everything," James said via ESPN, adding, "For someone who didn't have that growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids and have influence on your son.
"Be able to have moments with your son. And ultimately, to be able to work with your son. I think that's one of the greatest things that a father can ever hope for or wish for."

LeBron James has been vocal about wanting to play with his son, adding that he will do "whatever it takes" to make it happen before he retires.
