When does the NBA season start? All you need to know about opening night, key matches, injuries, and more for the 2022-23 season
The 2022-23 NBA season is just around the corner. Basketball fans from all around the world cannot wait to finally watch competitive basketball in the most prestigious league in the world.
After getting a taste of what's to come during the preseason, NBA fans have Tuesday, October 18 circled on their calendars. This is when the next season will start and will bring two amazing matchups.
In the first game of the 2022-23 NBA season, fans will have a chance to watch a clash between two amazing teams in the East, the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. The Western Conference matchup will feature the LA Lakers and the reigning champions, the Golden State Warriors.
Philadelphia and Boston will open the 2022-23 NBA season
The Boston Celtics were the best team in the East last season. They advanced all the way to the NBA Finals and were just two wins away from winning it all. During the season opener, they will host the Philadelphia 76ers in TD Garden.
The 2022-23 NBA season will start at 7:30 PM Eastern Time in Boston as the two amazing teams will show us what they have. Unfortunately, the Celtics will be without some of their key players and will be without Ime Udoka, their head coach.
Boston Celtics injuries:
- Robert Williams III (Out)
- Danilo Gallinari (Out)
- Marcus Smart (Day-to-day)
- Malcom Brogdon (Day-to-day)
The 76ers will be at their full strength for the opener of the new NBA season. They have added a couple of valuable pieces during the offseason, including P.J. Tucker, and many fans expect them to have a deep playoff run.
The Warriors will host the Lakers
Four months ago, the Warriors won another championship. This was their fourth championship in eight years, which is very impressive. They will open their season by hosting the LA Lakers and LeBron James on Tuesday.
The Warriors recently extended the contracts of Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins. Winning another title will be difficult as the league is very competitive, but they are still favorites. Unfortunately, they will not have Andre Iguodala for the season opener.
Golden State Warriors injuries:
- Andre Iguodala (Out)
- JaMychal Green (Day-to-day)
- Moses Moody (Day-to-day)
The LA Lakers will enter the new NBA season without much improvement. LeBron James will officially enter his 20th season, but leading the Lakers to another title sounds impossible if he doesn't get more help.
Unfortunately, the Lakers are already dealing with a couple of injuries.
Los Angeles Lakers injuries:
- Russell Westbrook (Day-to-day)
- Anthony Davis (Probable)
- Dennis Schroder (Day-to-day)
- Troy Brown Jr. (Day-to-day)
- Lonnie Walker IV (Day-to-day)
Davis will most likely suit up for the season opener against the Warriors. If Westbrook ends up playing, it will be interesting to see if Darvin Ham puts him in the starting lineup.
The Western Conference season opener will start at 10:00 PM Eastern Time.
