Who is Adam Silver? NBA commissioner's net worth, stance on Ja Morant and more explored
Adam Silver is a familiar face for many basketball fans around the world. The 60-year-old businessman is both a lawyer and a sports executive. He currently serves as the commissioner of the NBA.
Silver assumed office in February 2014. He succeeded the late David Stern, who was the league's commissioner for three decades. Once Stern retired, Silver took over the prestigious basketball league and has done a great job so far.
During Silver's tenure, the league has become much more profitable.
Adam Silver makes $10 million a year
Adam Silver's net worth is estimated at $40 million in March 2023, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The NBA commissioner makes approximately $10 million a year for his current role in the league.
The 60-year-old businessman assumed office after Stern retired. He earned his first contract extension in 2018, and it runs through the 2023-24 season, meaning that he will have made approximately $100 million by the time it expires.
Considering that team owners have benefited from his leadership and that the league has posted record-breaking profits, Silver's contract may be extended.

It's interesting that he's been with the league for more than three decades. He joined the league in 1992, serving as the deputy commissioner and chief operating officer. Silver was also the chief operating officer of NBA Entertainment for eight years.
Silver suspended Ja Morant for eight games
Adam Silver's tenure hasn't been easy at all. With one of the first major decisions he made, Silver forced Donald Sterling to sell the LA Clippers. Navigating the league through the coronavirus pandemic hasn't been easy either.
The NBA has had to deal with Ja Morant and his problematic behavior lately. The Memphis Grizzlies guard flashed a gun in a live Instagram video, which is why he was suspended for eight games without pay.
"Ja's conduct was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous," Adam Silver said. "It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him."

"Ja has also made it clear to me that he has learned from this incident and that he understands his obligations and responsibility to the Memphis Grizzlies and the broader NBA community extend well beyond his play on the court," Silver added.
Having a problematic superstar is not a good look for the NBA. However, it appears that this is another issue that Adam Silver has taken care of as Morant will be suspended until March 20.
It's important to note that the suspension came after the league thoroughly investigated the gun incident. While Morant wasn't found guilty of carrying a gun on a team plane, the NBA did not like that he flashed it on social media.
