Who is Dwyane Wade's father Dwyane Wade Sr.? Taking closer look at life of Heat legend's dad

Dwyane Wade's induction into the Hall of Fame marked his well-deserved recognition as one of basketball's greatest players. Clad in a sharp white suit, he delivered an exceptional tribute to the individual he referred to as the "most important person" in his life.

Dwyane Wade brought his dad onto the dais and gave "pops" his flowers, recollecting important moments in his journey to the top. There was no dry eye by the time the applause died down.

Going toe to toe with his son for being the best dressed in the room, Wade Sr. was in a sharp bottle green suit and looked like he was more of an elder brother than a father to the latest entrant into the HoF.

"You pushed me to limits I didn't know were inside of me. The hard work I put in, because I did not want to let you down," Wade said.

Besides being a grandfather to Wade's kids, Dwyane Sr. has been busy with a lot of activities of his own. He has appeared in a few documentaries, including Dwayne Wade Sr. with ProPops Foundation and Top Producer Seth O'Byrne Visits America's Finest City.

Wade Sr. is also an honorary doctorate, having obtained a degree alongside his daughter Tragil. Wade Sr. is going to turn 70 in a few years.

What impact has Dwyane Wade Sr. had on the Hall of Famer's career?

Wade Sr. took custody of him at the tender age of nine as his mother, JoLinda, struggled with drug problems. Wade spent his formative years under the watchful eye of his father and stepmother. He moved away from a life of guns and violence, into one of rigor, discipline, and basketball.

His dad taught him what it meant to be a leader as he raised Wade and took care of his family in Illinois. Wade Sr. took the opportunity to coach his son, who was in the early stages of his basketball journey.

Wade Sr. gave him the focus and the discipline he needed to become the Hall of Famer he is today.
